Never been to a Seedy Saturday? Its the third year for Delta and we love sharing this event with the community.
The Ladner Community Garden Society decided it was time for our community to hold a Seedy Saturday event. Its an event where you can come to swap open pollinated seeds, especially the heirloom types. I love starting plants from seed so I have lots of seed to bring to the swap table and hope I will bring home something new to try in my garden. I know what you are thinking, why grow from seed? Did you know how many different plants you can grow? I don't want just the ordinary plants most garden centers offer. I want heirloom types of tomatoes, the ones with flavour that my grandmother grew. I want to grow flowers that are different from the norm.
Not only will we have a seed swap we also have some great vendors coming. West Coast Seeds will be there selling seeds. Did you know that West Coast Seeds grows their seed trials at the Ladner Community Garden? Each year they try out different varieties before they go on the market. They have several seed trial gardens in Delta and Mark spends hours and hours growing new crops for all to enjoy.
Tatiana's Tomatobase and the Planting Seeds Project will also be returning this year. Both these companies have an array of seeds to choose from.
If you need advice on trees, Bartlett Tree Experts will be at their booth eager to answer your questions. There will be plants, seeds, garden accessories and much more.
Did you know we have a Facebook page? You can follow us over on Facebook and keep in touch as the event develops.
