Its official, our speakers are booked and we are in the last of the planning stages for Ladner Seedy Saturday and Garden Expo 2017. Now to get our vendors organized and iron out a few more details. There are always a few last minute items to deal with. Be sure to package up your unwanted seeds for our annual seed swap. I will be bring some heirloom tomato seeds to trade. Our poster is ready for printing so you will see it around the community. We have four wonderful speakers once again. I must give a shout out to Jennifer's Graphics for the great poster she created for us again this year. Brian Minter will start the day with a talk on "Whats New and Funky in Food Gardening" at 10:00am. I am sure Brian needs no introduction as he is a well known speaker. Brian is famous for his passion in gardening which is so evident in his talks. Brian will be bringing plants to sell at the event. For those of you who haven't heard Brian Minter speak, he is the owner of Min...

Ladner Seedy Saturday and Garden Expo 2015 Presents..

The Ladner Seedy Saturday and Garden Expo 2015 is pleased to present our speaker schedule for the event. If you haven't been to Seedy Saturday you won't want to miss it. I am still waiting on topics from some of my speakers and will update as we get closer to the event. Brian Minter spoke at the event last year and brought us up to speed on where the gardening industry was going. Thomas Hobbs needs no introduction. He is well known for his garden design and we are hoping to get a peek into his new garden in the Fraser Valley. His private gardens have been featured in many magazines such as House Beautiful, Better Homes and Gardens and Horticulture. Tom will have us inspired to think out of the box when it comes to designing our gardens. Tom is also the author of Shocking Beauty and the Jewel Box Garden.  If you live locally, you will have met Robyn Leake at our Ladner Village Market in the summer. She is an amazing designer when it comes to containers. Robyn will be spea...

Ladner Seedy Saturday and Garden Expo 2015-An Update

The committee for Ladner Seedy Saturday and Garden Expo 2015 has been working hard to bring you one of the best events to date. Its been pretty quiet over here on the blog as I tackle new projects so I apologize for my absence. So what can we expect at Ladner Seedy Saturday? As you can see we are now partnering with the Corporation of Delta to host the event. They have been kind enough to let us use the historic Harris barn at Kirkland House on Arthur drive. It couldn't be a better venue. Okay, many don't know this but I lived on this property as a child. I remember running through the hay fields and helping to pick potatoes by hand. Going back to this old homestead makes it surreal for me and full of memories. Yes, I am excited. Lets get back to the event. We have Brian Minter as one of our keynote speakers. He is the guru of gardening and last year he was met with a room of eager gardeners young and old as he talked about how gardening is changing. I have a...

Its our third year and each year it's so much fun.  Starting off our day is Brian Minter. He hardly needs any introduction as he is the go to plant guru of them all. Happy New Year from the Ladner Community Garden

Happy new year to our allotment gardeners, our community sponsors and readers. We wish for all of you an abundant season like we had in 2013. Last year the weather couldn't have been better for growing vegetables.  All the gardens looked great last year so I will share a few photos of what did best. Just look at the kale. There were so many different types of kale being grown in the garden that it was mind boggling. They added some great colour to the gardens. The spinach also did well as can be seen by this photo.    Peas, peas and more peas. It seemed like they never stopped producing. Many gardeners grew a second crop in the fall. So many different kinds of lettuce. Look how this red lettuce adds striking colour to the garden and to a salad. Last year we finished the two pergolas, an arbor and built a fence. We also started a hedge row which will be an ongoing project.  The grade three class returned to the garden and had fun le...
