Ladner Seedy Saturday Was a Huge Success

Ladner Seedy Saturday and Garden Expo 2014 was a huge success. Thanks goes to all our volunteers, vendors and customers for making this event successful. It was a fun  day had by all. After five months of working on this event, it was nice to see it all come together. Let's take a look at a few of the displays.  Ray Mattei from Tropic to Tropic came with his plants. He had everything from olive trees, avocado trees and citrus. Did you know many of these plants are now hardy here? I came home with Camellia sinensis or Russian tea shrub although I would have loved to have bought way more.  Distinctive Perennials brought his amazing succulent containers and the mix of colours made it hard to choose which plant to take home. I couldn't resist buying a couple of small plants for my terrariums and will have to get some more soon.  We also had three speakers and as you can see it was standing room only. Brian Minter, Julia Common and Ian Tait gave wonderful presentati

Ladner Seedy Saturday is Here!

Ladner Seedy Saturday and Garden Expo is tomorrow February 15 and I am pretty excited. It has been a long six months of organizing and I hope everyone in the community has a great time. What is  Seedy Saturday? A Seedy Saturday is a day for like minded gardeners to celebrate the upcoming spring season. They come to trade seeds, buy seed, garden accessories and listen to informative presentations. It's a great way to kick start the garden season. It looks like winter is almost over as people are posting photos of their Crocuses in full bloom. That's a sure sign spring isn't very far away. We will have some soil and manure sales outside tomorrow. We have a skid of Sea Soil and some steer manure. Get it early as last year it was sold out in one hour. The event starts at 10:00am with our first speaker, Brian Minter, at 10:15am. There is lots of free parking and a food cart will be on site to sustain you. If you need coffee, the Ladner Baptist Church will be running the

Ladner Seedy Saturday- Only Six Days Away!

Its just six days until Ladner Seedy Saturday and Garden Expo and I can't wait! You know what's going to happen. We will have our impending snowfall and it's all going to wash away so the spring bulbs can bloom. The end of winter is so close now. We gardeners are optimistic and we are always looking for the beauty in each season. For me spring is my favourite with the signs of new life emerging from the soil.  What a better way to jumpstart a new gardening season by coming to Ladner Seedy Saturday.  Have you got seeds to share? Our seed swap is back again this year and we just received a large donation of seeds for everyone to look through. Bring your seeds in their original packages as we can see the description of the plant on the package. If you have collected your own seeds, please package them like the ones above or use glassine envelopes. Mark the name of the plant, if it is open pollinated or hybrid, how many seeds are in the package, the year the seed
