Its just six days until Ladner Seedy Saturday and Garden Expo and I can't wait! You know what's going to happen. We will have our impending snowfall and it's all going to wash away so the spring bulbs can bloom. The end of winter is so close now. We gardeners are optimistic and we are always looking for the beauty in each season. For me spring is my favourite with the signs of new life emerging from the soil.
What a better way to jumpstart a new gardening season by coming to Ladner Seedy Saturday.
Have you got seeds to share? Our seed swap is back again this year and we just received a large donation of seeds for everyone to look through. Bring your seeds in their original packages as we can see the description of the plant on the package.
If you have collected your own seeds, please package them like the ones above or use glassine envelopes. Mark the name of the plant, if it is open pollinated or hybrid, how many seeds are in the package, the year the seed was harvested and if its annual or perennial. If you don't know all the information about your seeds, the VanDusen master gardeners can help you identify your plant.
Wondering who is going to be at the event? Back again by popular demand are the Bartlett Tree Experts. Everyone loves trees but often we need help when our trees become stressed or need pruning. The Bartlett team is here to help you.
West Coast Seeds will also be selling their seeds at Ladner Seedy Saturday. For those of you who are coming from out of the area, West Coast Seeds is located right in the heart of Ladner with their warehouse operation on 64th street and their retail store on Elliot street in Ladner. If you have time to visit the store, it will be a true gardeners experience as there is just so much to see and buy.
The South Delta Evergreen Garden Club will also be at Ladner Seedy Saturday. If you are interested in joining a garden club, this is the one for you. They have very interesting speakers and meet on the third Tuesday of each month at Kin House in Ladner at 730pm. This month the very entertaining Egan Davis, who is an award winning gardener, will be speaking at the garden club. You don't want to miss Egan who has a life long passion for horticulture.
